This presentation will provide a brief overview of the recent policy changes adopted by the Chinese government to monitor, control and reduce the levels of lead exposure and pollution caused by production of lead–acid batteries (LABs) and their collection and recycling after use. An outline will then be given of the legislation recently introduced in China and requires LAB manufacturers to adopt policies and practices that comply with the concept of ‘Extended Producer Responsibility’.

Dr Yeo Lin is the Professor at the School of Public Affairs and the Director of Industrial Development Research Center at the Zhejiang University in China. He has thirty years’ experience with a track record of conducting economic analysis, policy studies, and industry research in Asia with a focus on Greater China. In recent years, Professor Lin has led a number of major projects related to environmental protection in China.
